Balance your hormones

There are three main hormonal phases a woman’s body goes through during her life. Do you know which phase you are currently experiencing?

After childbearing years, a woman enters menopause where estrogen and progesterone begin to decline.  In perimenopause, which occurs at the onset of menopause, hormones begin to fluctuate dramatically. Scientists have evidence that estrogen levels will ultimately drop 40 to 60 per cent, while progesterone can decline even more dramatically. There are more and more women who do not want conventional hormone replacement therapy and are opting for a more natural approach to balancing their hormones.

Omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil contain lignans. Lignans are compounds with a weak estrogenic effect and are present in foods like soybeans and flaxseeds. According to BreastCancer.org, lignans can trick the body into thinking they are estrogen and can bind to estrogen receptors, taking the place of stronger estrogen cells. This may be important in diseases like breast cancer that may be linked to an excess in estrogen.

Omega-3 fatty acids are precursors to locally produced hormones called eicosanoids. These hormones are important in helping to prevent and treat various diseases, such as breast cancer, postmenopausal osteoporosis, menstrual problems and postpartum depression. Omega-3 fatty acids also increase certain female hormones related to fertility. They may be important during pregnancy in helping with the growth and development of the baby.

One of the most potent sources of Omega 3 is krill oil which has been shown in studies to reduce PMS and support women during and after menopause.

I recommend Marine Omega, as it’s made of very high-quality fish oil and also features krill oil. The omega-3 oils are extremely important, and unfortunately, the average diet is getting only 20 percent of what is required. Krill oil is very unique in that it is ten times more effective than fish oil, and features astaxanthin—a powerful antioxidant. MarineOmega is guaranteed pure and free from heavy metals which are commonly found in fish and other fish oil supplements tested.

Also worth noting is that Marine Omega with krill oil has a high concentrations of fatty acids EPA and DHA that are beneficial to heart health, skin, brain function, arthritis and joint pain.

Menopause leads to bone loss due to the loss of estrogen. In fact, women may experience as much as a 20 per cent drop in bone density in the five to seven years after menopause, according to the National Osteoporosis Foundation. Osteoporosis is a silent and serious disease.
